We all vouch for a certified diamond, because we are ensured that the diamond is graded against an established system. However, how can you really be sure you are getting exactly what you paid for? We recommend all Diamond buyers to go through this helpful checklist to ensure no fraudulent activities are taking place.

Let us first understand the certificate.

A diamond certification (diamond report) is provided to guarantee the quality of the diamonds, which in turn makes the customers confident that the diamonds they purchased live up to their value.

The most popular is the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certification. There are other alternative certifications such as, International Gemological Institute (IGI) and Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD). They all report similar details on their certifications and are not very different in their grading systems. At Diamonds by Manee, we provide a wide range of certified diamonds here.

Checklist to Test Certificate Verification:

  1. Check the certification number on the certificate and on the side (girdle) of the diamond to see if they both match.

  2. Check the weight and size of the diamond. You can measure the dimensions of the diamond and compare with the certificate and weigh the carat of the diamond.

  3. Look for flaws. Using a loop, see if you can identify the flaws that may be reported on the report. Note: some scratches may be too small to identify.

  4. Cross Reference on the certification website. All institutions will provide the details necessary for the diamond when the certificate number is provided. This will ensure the validity of the certificate.

We sell a wide variety of certified diamonds, you are welcome to browse for a diamond of your choice on our website and our diamond sales expert will be in touch to assist you.
